Artist in Focus: Franco Ciuti

Franco Ciuti was born in Rome, july 20th 1938. He attended the Art Institute where he had Pericle Fazzini and Leoncillo as professor. Leoncillo’s influence marked his first art work which was exhibited at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome in 1961,  the III Mostra Nazionale d’Arte dei Giovani (3rd National Art exihibit of Young adults). The main art concept of Ciuti’s art, already stated in his art work since the 70s, becomes now consistent and innovative.  It’ s a comparison, or better yet, a reserch of a comparison between the organic form and the essential geometry, among which the square and the circle and beyond the concept of the hard and soft, the pointy corners/sharp corners and the fold. His last art creations/ pieces in the 90s can be defined “unmeasurable architecture” in which the weight of the material tend to lightness or  rising/growth.

Artist in Focus: Meng Donglai

Meng Donglai interest originates from the study of psychoanalysis, which reveals the contradiction and split between human consciousness and subconsciousness, which makes she doubt the authenticity of the images that we present in reality. Therefore, She artistic practice is to constantly capture and feel the inner state of human beings in different contexts, such as dreams, fantasies, hallucinations, these subconscious activities that cannot be observed with eyes, she question their significance for real life. her works are mainly installations, paintings, short stories, videos and so on. While exploring the mental world of people inward, she also research the connection between real society and human psychology. she endowed my works with fictional narrative backgrounds, just like building dreams in the real world, making it as insinuations and reflections on real problems, and trying to draw viewers' attention to their inner experience.
