THE CONSTRUCTION SITE BECOMES AN EXHIBITION SPACE: “DUPLEX,” WHERE ART AND TRANSFORMATION COINCIDE

Rome – Two vertically connected apartments at Via S. Croce in Gerusalemme 91 will become an unconventional exhibition venue for two consecutive weekends.
DUPLEX is an event that interlaces sculpture, photography and architecture inside an active construction site. Curated by Francesca Bertuglia, the project is part of the format IO SONO ALTRO, which brings contemporary art into liminal, unstable, living spaces.

ABOUT THE FORMAT “IO SONO ALTRO”

IO SONO ALTRO is a curatorial format that opens to the public places normally inaccessible—construction sites, private homes in transformation, suspended or transitional environments—temporarily converting them into exhibition spaces.
It offers a dual experience: visiting an exhibition while simultaneously entering a site under construction, observing process and result side by side.
The format invites viewers to inhabit the “in-between,” a fragile and transitional moment that typically escapes attention.

DUPLEX: TWO FLOORS, TWO EXHIBITIONS, ONE NARRATIVE OF CHANGE

“Between Construction” – Exhibition by Wang Yongxu

Wang’s exhibition places concrete sculptures directly within the construction site, among raw surfaces, evolving walls and materials in assembly.
The works establish a dialogue with the precariousness of the environment, creating tension between completed form and instability, between construction and reconstruction.

“Variazioni sotto pelle” – A Visual Diary by Fabrizio Fioravanti

Fabrizio Fioravanti’s photographic project captures the transformation of the site from within.
Dust, sparks, overlapping materials, noise and verification processes become the coordinates of a sentimental visual diary that records the moment of “during”: fragile, unrepeatable and filled with expectation.

Fioravanti writes:
“I witnessed the moment when all the assumptions of the architectural project—those theoretical, cultural and practical principles measured, evaluated and revised many times—are finally forced to fall into reality as the construction begins and their verification starts.”
