Activities ・ART SP Yuji Sugimoto Yuji Sugimoto Yuji Sugimoto -Earth, Sand, and Stone My motivation for creating my work is the vague visualization of the senses of human society. My aim is to clearly express the changes in modern humans' natural senses and values and in social structure with universal and mediocre stones, sand, and earth. To me, modern society and human beings seem very vague. This is because in modern times, the characteristics and values of the nation are uniform due to the development of globalism and science. To me, a uniform world seems to be the result of the diminishing value of traditional culture and unique identities. It can be said that human beings who have become uniform due to globalism have become mediocre and universal beings like sand, earth, and stones. Rather, I felt that humans were exposed as essentially stones and sands. This is because human beings are like vessels influenced by their own culture and society, and their essence is empty and homogeneous. This is why I make portraits of modern people with earth, sand, and stone. For me, culture, history, and all living things are essentially the same as sand, earth, and stone, and I use my expression to explore the essence of all events.
